Australian Matthew Griffin scored the biggest win of his professional career on Sunday with a one-stroke victory at the 2012 Charity High1 Resort Open in Korea’s Gangwon-do province. The 29-year-old Melburnian held his nerve in a topsy-turvy final round for an even-par 72 that gave him a nine-under total of 278 and the winner’s cheque of around U.S. $178,000.

Rory McIlroy overturned a three shot final round deficit to squeeze past South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen and win the Deutsche Bank Championship by one stroke.
The World Number One’s final round 67 gave him victory with a 20 under par total of 264, just ahead of former Open Champion Oosthuizen, whose late surge was not quite enough as he finished with a 71.

World number nine Adam Scott, eight-time Major champion Tom Watson, defending champion Greg Chalmers and former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy are the first big names to confirm they will be part of the action at this year’s Emirates Australian Open at The Lakes Golf Club from 6-9 December.

With a four-shot cushion and four holes to play, it was Scott’s tournament to lose. But a few critical mistakes – including a costly missed green on the 17th – saw him bogey the last four holes and hand the championship to Els via a five-over-par 75.

Golf Australia National Squad member Minjee Lee (WA) became the first Australian to win the U.S Girls’ Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, near San Francisco. The 16 year-old Royal Fremantle Golf Club member and World Number 8 amateur defeated Southern California’s Alison Lee 1up after a remarkable comeback in the 36-hole Match Play final to win her first USGA event on debut.

Day 2 of The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes saw a flurry of action on the leaderboard, with Aussie Adam Scott holding firm near the top of the leaderboard. Now sitting in second place behind American Brandt Snedeker, Adam is joined by 5 other Aussies to make the cut: Greg Chalmers (T15), Geoff Ogilvy (T28), John Senden (T40), Aaron Baddeley (T51) and Brendan Jones making it “on the number” with +3 total (T68).
