Golf NSW

The powers of the Golf NSW Council have been transitioned after an historic vote of Councillors last week. This followed an earlier vote by the member clubs and districts that overwhelmingly voted in favour of the changes.

With the support of all parties in place, the Golf NSW Council ceased to exist on 7 October.

The change will see Golf NSW member clubs & districts become the sole bodies with the power to vote on matters relating to the Organisation, including the election of the Golf NSW Board, changes to the Golf NSW Constitution and disposal of the organisation’s assets.

“Effective governance is critical to the future of Golf NSW and to the future of the sport. With these changes Golf NSW has embodied a “best practice” structure that will equip the Organisation for the future.” said Chairman John Robinson

Due to the timing of this vote, the Golf NSW Annual General Meeting will be held on November 17, around three weeks later than previous years. A Board election will take place before this, with nine nominations  to fill seven positions.

The changes were strongly supported by the Australian Sports Commission and the NSW Office of Sport.

As part of the new structure, the incoming Board of Golf NSW will appoint a 16-person Advisory Committee to represent all country and metropolitan stakeholders early in 2017. This committee will meet three times a year and will serve as a strategic ‘sounding board’ as Golf NSW moves forward and to ensure that the interests of all clubs and golfers across the State are represented.

In addition, from 2017 Golf NSW will stage an annual Golf Forum with presentations from keynote speakers and industry leaders, to keep clubs up to date with industry trends. It is anticipated that the Golf Forum will precede the Golf NSW AGM each year.
