Purpose: To train your hands and hips to work together at the start of the swing, keeping the hands traveling parallel to your stance line for a consistent, on-path takeaway.
Setup
Take your normal address position.
Align your feet so they’re parallel to your stance line.
Begin with a gentle forward press – move your hands slightly forward along your stance line.
The motion should feel straight ahead, not inward or outward.
This initiates the swing and sets the hands on the correct takeaway path.
Step 2 – Takeaway Path
As you start your takeaway, let your hands travel back along the same line as the forward press.
Keep them parallel to your stance line, avoiding any move inside or around your body.
Let the hips turn naturally with the hands — they work as a team.
Step 3 – Slow-Motion Rehearsal
Repeat the move in slow motion, focusing on the track of your hands.
Pause halfway back to check that:
The hands are still on line.
The club head is moving smoothly on path.
The hips have started to turn without sliding.
Step 4 – Mirror or Video Feedback
Watch the reflection to ensure your hands stay parallel to your stance line.
Record from down the line and review if your hands drift inside.
Make small adjustments until the motion looks and feels straight and connected.
Key Feel
The hands and hips start together — straight back along your stance line — setting the swing on its natural path from the very first move.
The drill builds the skill — creating effortless power rather than powerless effort.
