FROM the “where are they now” dossier comes news of former Brookwater Golf and Country Club teaching professional John Collins.

Collins, who in 2022 received the PGA of Australia National Coach of the Year – Game Development Award at the Greg Norman Medal night, has set up an indoor teaching and practice facility, JC Golf Studio at Unit 2/24 Technology Drive, Augustine Heights.

“For the past 12 months I have been working on opening the indoor facility – JC Golf Studio,” he told Inside Golf. “I spent nine years at Brookwater and this is the next chapter in my career.

“The facility is in a new commercial building, which I have transformed into a studio that has three Trackman bays, a small retail space and a club-fitting area.

“I use the Trackman bays for my teaching and club-fitting services while golfers can utilise the bays for practice and play.”

The facility is open from 9am to 6pm midweek and from 9am to 4pm on weekends, however, those golfers who join as members can use the facility to hone their skills 24 hours a day.

“Golfers can come in and play one of the 270 different courses available on the Trackman simulators,” Collins said. “There is an array of practice offerings they can use including shot analysis, target practice, driving range, on course play or test centre where they receive Trackman data feedback.

“I believe being able to receive this instant feedback helps the golfer to learn much quicker.”

Over many years Collins has earned the trust and respect of amateurs and professionals alike.

His holistic approach, personalised coaching style, and profound knowledge make him the go-to authority for anyone seeking to unlock their full potential and elevate their game to new heights.

As an award-winning teaching professional Collins’ teaching philosophy is simple: communicate your message effectively and listen to the student.

“I’m definitely not a method coach,” he said.

“I work with what the student has and then assist them to achieve the best results rather than making major changes to their swing.

“I have grown my name within the golf industry through the game development side of teaching and will continue to do this at JC Golf Studio. The new facility has been created to become a golfer’s game development venue rather than as an entertainment facility.

“For me, it’s about improving the golfer as a player through their coaching, obtaining the right equipment and getting the most from their time practising.

“The goal is to help golfers of all levels who want to improve their game … or for beginners who want to learn the basics and get into golf.

“We also provide an extensive club-fitting service and club repairs to ensure all players have the correct equipment for his or her game.”

And Collins was quick to offer club golfers a tip.

“Forget about your bad shots, which we can all learn from but find it hard to move on from,” he said. “A lot of people carry those bad shots for one, two or three holes whereas the elite player will block out a bad shot and focus only on the present and the shot at hand.”
