Kathie Shearer, with maybe some help from her special ‘friend’ Alphie, has penned a book Last Orders.
THE indefatigable, Kathie Shearer, wife of the late champion Australian golfer, Bob, has penned a book.
The gregarious and hugely entertaining Kathie was a constant in golf media for many years including at the Australian Open.
She met Bob Shearer when she was working as a Dunhill hostess at a tournament in which he was playing in England. The late Jack Newton’s wife, Jackie, also met her husband at the same time.
Cathie Shearer has had many and varied roles in her life, one of them funeral celebrant which prompted the book – Last Orders.
“It’s my take on this little thing called life and death,” Kathie says.
“Part memoir, part guidebook,” she adds Last Orders “is a candid, compassionate and sometimes cheeky read.”
From growing up in post-war London, to the world of golf media interviewing famous golfers like Greg Norman and Tiger Woods, to 20 years as a funeral celebrant, navigating the love and loss life has dealt her.
So, if you’re interested in what Kathie calls “this Cockney girl’s candid take on life,” this book is worth reading.
