HELLO Golfers! This month we have our friends at Odyssey who have brought out a new range of putters. And while they may look familiar to us golfers, I can assure you they perform differently and have been engineered in a way that not too many manufacturers have!

In the new Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot Putters there are four models. The Jailbird & Jailbird Cruiser along with the Rosie and #7 heads.

If you have read any of my articles before you would know how much I love a centre shaft putter and although the premise behind these putters is the movement around Zero Torque, the appeal for my eyes is great with the shaft sitting right in the centre of the putter. I really do like the new colorways that Odyssey have gone with. In recent times they have traditionally been a strong navy, white and gold, however the black and red works really well and looks great when the putter sits on the ground. The grips are slightly bigger than I prefer, but not because of the looks or performance it’s just that I have small hands. However I do see the advantages around the type of grip on the putter.

Diving into the technology behind the putter and Odyssey have moved into the ‘Zero Torque’ game and have really nailed it, with the putters a revolution in the “Zero Torque” category.

Using multi-material construction, they have been able to move the CG of these putters far enough forward to get the shaft entering the head on the topline, eliminating the need for shaft lean and thus eliminating one of the biggest barriers to entry for this style of putter. By moving the CG forward Odyssey have been able to position the hosel spud on the topline, much closer to the face than typical ‘Zero Torque’ putters, allowing for a more natural, intuitive and comfortable set up position. By strategically using Aluminium, Steel, and over 140 grams of tungsten they have been able to design a “Zero Torque” putter with more than 80 per cent of its weight under the topline and allowing for the forward CG and hosel position.

Designed using Artificial Intelligence, this dual-layer urethane insert has a soft outer layer and a firm inner layer, delivering not only consistent ball speed across the face, but also enhanced forward roll and amazing feel. The new Forward Roll Design Groove is deeper and more aggressive. With a 19° slope it works in conjunction with the dual layer design to improve the forward roll up and down the face.

Like I mentioned earlier, Odyssey have surveyed the most popular grips used on Tours around the world and looked for commonalities and opportunities to improve on those designs. The result is a mid-sized pistol grip with crisp edges that allow it to fit comfortably in your hands and give you a better awareness of where the putter face is throughout the stroke. Lastly, Odyssey have introduced a new Black SL 120 Shaft. Developed on tour, this new black PVD shaft is heavier and stiffer than the SL 90 and ideally suits this style of putter.

Something I really found interesting about the range of putters was that there are multiple head designs that Odyssey have been known for, which in my opinion can make the jump to a Zero Torque putter much easier. Odyssey have gone with the Rossie, #7, Jailbird and then to change it up again, the Jailbird Cruiser as their options. The Jailbird Cruiser is a slightly longer putter than the other three models at 38”inches, with a heavier head as well as a longer 17” grip.

Now to my favourite! Its almost like picking your favourite child, however in this case I had two distinct models that I really enjoyed using. The Jailbird and the Rossie. The Cruiser I couldn’t get used to the length and kept gripping it in different spots. I can see the benefit for golfers looking for a heavier putter, but I couldn’t get used to the length. The#7 just didn’t perform as good for me as the Jailbird and the Rossie. I have played with the Jailbird mini version before, however I haven’t really played with the head shape of the Rossie. I liked the simplicity of the Rossie but at the same time really liked the alignment benefits for me with the Jailbird. I found it easier to aim at my spots.

The new Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot putter range is a bold and impressive move into the Zero Torque category. By combining cutting-edge materials, AI-driven insert design, and some of Odyssey’s most trusted head shapes, they’ve created a lineup that feels both familiar and revolutionary. Whether you’re a long-time Odyssey fan or simply looking to improve your roll and consistency, there’s a model here that will fit your eye and your stroke.
