FOR the second successive year, a strong contingent of juniors from Pacific Golf Club in Brisbane jumped on the club’s bus to make the 90-minute journey to play in the Toogoolawah Golf Club Junior Classic.
“Twelve Pacific juniors travelled as a team and once again enjoyed the experience of playing on a country course,” said Pacific junior president Peter Johnstone.
During their visit, Pacific presented two sets of junior golf clubs to two new Toogoolawah juniors.
“These clubs were donated by Pacific members,” Peter said. “Toogoolawah is very appreciative of the support shown to our young golfers by Pacific.
“It is great that a city club can support a smaller regional club in this way.
“I cannot speak highly enough of the effort put in by Toogoolawah Golf Club in running this event,” he added.
“The volunteers out there do such a wonderful job. I think it is important for city clubs like Pacific to support their country counterparts.
“Pacific is very happy to bring our juniors out to this event and we are delighted to be able to support Toogoolawah’s juniors with some equipment. “We hope they enjoy the game and maybe even become future winners of the Toogoolawah Classic.”
This year’s Toogoolawah Junior Classic, a regular event on the Queensland junior calendar since 1993, attracted strong support from juniors, who play two rounds on the nine-hole layout.
Stalwart club captain Judie Marshke, along with volunteers and an enthusiastic committee, maintain the course, which is in very good condition.
“It’s great to see so many kids come out to play at Toogoolawah and it’s wonderful for our club to see so many great young players in action,” Judie said.
Pittsworth Golf Club’s Mitchell Fowler won the boys’ open after carding a 74 – one stroke clear of Will Letts of Pacific Golf Club.
Middle Ridge Golf Club’s Kamryn Dunemann took out the girls’ title.
One of the highlights was an eagle scored by 13-year-old Mackenzie Devine on the par-5 fifth hole.
To mark this great achievement, Toogoolawah Golf Club presented Mackenzie with a gold eagle badge.
