Greg Norman

Defending champion Greg Chalmers and former winners Geoff Ogilvy (2008) and Greg Norman (1984, 1985) have confirmed their entry into this year’s 2012 Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola at the Palmer Coolum Resort from December 13-16.

“Last year’s Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola was the most successful staged in recent history, attracting a world-class field and record television viewership,” said Brian Thorburn, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Australia.

“With the continued support of players and partners, including Events Queensland and Coca-Cola Amatil, we look forward to yet another successful Australian PGA Championship that will carry on the great tradition of this event.”

In this, its 13th consecutive year in Queensland, the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola has established a home for itself in the sunshine state and continues to be a pinnacle event on the state’s dynamic events calendar.  It also returns to its traditional place as the final event on both the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia calendars.

One of the players’ favourite tournament destinations, defending champion Greg Chalmers is one of many competitors looking forward to a Coolum return.

The 38-year-old West Australian prevailed in the 2011 event following a three-man playoff with Marcus Fraser and four-time Australian PGA Champion Robert Allenby, to win his second consecutive tournament on home soil following his win at the Emirates Australian Open.

“Last year was such a rush. To win two of our country’s biggest titles in a season was an extremely satisfying achievement,” said Chalmers, who has been a regular in the PGA field.

“There aren’t many better places to play golf and bring the family on Tour than Coolum. I’m really looking forward to finishing the year off back there and hopefully putting on another good show.”

Norman says he is also looking forward to returning to play in his home state.

“Queensland is home to some wonderful golf courses, and it’s always great to get back to Coolum and catch up with friends and family. It should be another great tournament,” Norman said.
