IT’S no secret that NSW Golf Club at La Perouse in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has “beaten up” many players over the years.
Indeed, one former club captain admitted this marvellous layout can be all but unplayable when the weather really closes in.
He once explained that there were always a few ‘desperates’ who would turn up to play, in any conditions.
And one Saturday morning the conditions were so bad that about seven players were the only ones silly enough to brave the course.
He played nine holes and returned zero, you read it right, zero stableford points before sanity prevailed and everyone went home.
Still, that won’t make Australian cricketer Josh Inglis feel any better.
Australia’s reserve wicketkeeper left NSW Golf Club with his golf game on the backburners after a serious hand injury ended his hopes at the recent T20 World Cup.
Inglis, and several Australian players, including David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell and coach Andrew McDonald, were playing a casual round at New South Wales when tragedy struck.
Inglis suffered a hand injury after a golf club snapped while in his grip.
The club actually broke while he was trying to hit the ball down the fairway and sliced his hand, apparently drawing plenty of blood.
The injury left the 27-year-old in such discomfort that he was unable to finish the round.
Remarkably, Inglis isn’t the first cricketer involved in the T20 World Cup to be injured on the golf course this month.
Amazingly, England batsman Jonny Bairstow was also injured playing golf recently.
Bairstow was ruled out of the T20 World Cup after breaking his leg when he slipped while approaching a tee box during a round of golf.
Bairstow required surgery and will spend several months on the sidelines.
On the up-side, David Warner showed his recent spate of good form wasn’t just on the cricket field.
The golf-addict, who organises much of the golf when the team is on tour, returned a healthy 42 stableford points to outlast Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood and McDonald with 34 points.
