The par-3 7th Hole at The National (Old Course) could be one of the best 7th holes in Australia. But is there a better 7th somewhere?

The debate has raged since the dawn of our great game down under: which holes are the best in Australia? From official Course Rankings penned by professional journalists and course raters, to the quiet 19th Hole discussions by club members and visitors at courses across the country, the joys and merits of individual holes have been argued and disseminated for time immemorial.

“I reckon our 18th hole is the best closing hole in Australia,” one member may say, prompting a raised eyebrow of a visiting guest in a neighbouring table, who might argue “Maybe, but I reckon OUR club’s 18th might just pip yours at the post!. Your 7th hole, however is the best 7th hole I’ve ever played…”

And while everyone has an opinion, one thing is clear: Australia has some of the best golfing holes in the country (and maybe the world). And it’s time that someone (namely, Inside Golf) puts together a “Dream 18” that encompasses the absolute BEST 18 individual holes our country has to offer.

So Inside Golf is putting out the call: we’re looking for the best 18 individual holes in Australia.

But here’s the twist: We don’t want just any collection of 18 good holes. We are looking to find the best FIRST hole, the best SECOND hole, and so on, until we compile a complete, awe-inspiring 18-hole layout.

And we want YOU to choose!

Starting this month, Inside Golf is accepting nominations for the best individual golf holes in Australia. Simply go to our website and enter the golf hole(s) that you think are the best in the country. It may be from your club, or one that you love as a visitor.

Whether it’s a monstrously long par-5 12th hole, a devilishly short par-3 17th hole, or simply a stunning, solid “par-anything” that offers extreme or unique enjoyment/beauty/fun/challenge or otherwise, it’s all fair game!

And best of all, this is a level playing field, meaning that even a small country club with a spectacular hole or two can compete with the larger metropolitan layouts!

Throughout the year, we will collect and collate the nominations, before revealing a group of finalists, which will then go up on our website for public voting (and doubtless plenty of heated debate and controversy!).

Later in the year, we will crown the “Dream 18” course, composed of the 18 individual winners, with each winning club/course receiving a special citation from Inside Golf, as well as the (highly important) bragging rights!
