A place that makes golf feel fresh and fun
IN a leafy suburb just outside Launceston, a new beat has arrived for Tasmanian golf. The Range at Country Club Tasmania is more than a driving range; it’s a vibrant, inclusive golf entertainment precinct that reimagines what a modern golf experience can be.
Judging by the millions of golf balls already struck since opening, the concept is proving a remarkable success.
The Range is impressive from the moment you arrive. Immediately I was struck by the scale, the crisp newness of the vista as you step onto the 28 undercover bays, the aroma of freshly served coffee, and the quality food being prepped in the background. This felt new.
Standing there hitting balls with former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting, a Launceston native and ambassador for the Country Club, it struck me that half the reason Ponting is so good at golf is that he has such a fine facility in his backyard.
We could certainly do with something like this up near my home in Northern NSW.
Every station is equipped with Toptracer technology, delivering real-time ball-flight data, shot tracing, and fun competitive games that turn practice into entertainment. Bays are spacious, heated, and serviced with in-bay food and beverage delivery…no more trudging back to the clubhouse mid-session. As the sun dips, thoughtfully designed lighting transforms the range into a glowing night-time playground, perfect for after-work swings or evening socials.
The vibe is relaxed yet energised, think café-meets-golf-clubhouse atmosphere. The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant serves a full menu of crowd-pleasing favourites, from casual bites, slider-style burgers and pizzas to share plates ideal for groups, and yes, they cater for all dietary requirements. Whether fuelling up before a session or winding down afterwards, the open, welcoming space and comfortable lounge setting encourage lingering conversations and laughter. It’s the kind of place where serious golfers fine-tune their games alongside first-timers, families, friends and corporate crews.
PGA professional and resident golf coach Bryce Gorham is a well-known teaching pro. Fortunate enough to play a few holes with Bryce on the soon-to-open Championship Golf Course, I can honestly say I haven’t seen many people hit a 3-wood off the deck with such quality.
Bryce offers individual and group lessons, including those that can be booked through The Range, along with junior clinics, corporate sessions and equipment advice. The huge putting green overlooking the 18th hole will be yet another attraction for keen golfers, once it officially opens in the summer.
Just metres away from The Range sits the architecturally designed 18-hole mini-golf course created by Australia’s leading mini-golf specialist, Richard Chamberlain. Thoughtfully landscaped and creatively challenging, it’s an attraction that delivers genuine fun for all ages. Kids burn off energy, adults rediscover their competitive spirit, and the whole experience feels like a destination in itself. Birthdays, work functions and family outings have found a new home here, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
The Range sits adjacent to Country Club Tasmania’s quality accommodation and world-class casino, creating a true all-in-one destination. Close to Launceston Airport and the city centre, it’s effortlessly accessible for locals and visitors alike and is sure to become a go-to destination for golfers arriving in northern Tasmania.
In the summer of 2026/27, the best is yet to come when the precinct will be completed by the opening of the stunning new Championship Golf Course. Designed by renowned architect Robin Gibson, this parkland-style layout, featuring creeks, strategic bunkering and dramatic contours, is destined to rank among Australia’s finest.
The stonework on the course’s 18 bridges will have golfers thinking of the famous crossings at St Andrews, although this is very much a parkland design rather than a links layout. When the course opens, Country Club Tasmania will evolve into a complete golf ecosystem; practice, play, dine, stay and entertain, all in one central Tasmanian setting.
