BACK in 1995 PGA Chaplain Graham Lawrence established the Oberon PGA trainee Pro Am to support Trainee Golf Professionals throughout NSW.

A successful and well-supported event, played at Oberon Golf Club just west of the
Blue Mountains, the Pro-am celebrated it’s 30th anniversary on the first weekend in March.

Lawrence, who recently retired as the PGA Chaplain, was on hand to once again support the event, assisting Brighton Lakes Head Professional Kurt Stegbauer who has
taken the reins in running the three-day weekend.

In naming the weekend of golf “The Oberon Experience”, Stegbauer, who has enjoyed an association with Oberon dating back 20 years in previously servicing Oberon GC once a month with lessons, clinics, retail and repairs, now takes members and juniors from Brighton Lakes for a long weekend of golf and country hospitality.

“Oberon GC is a special place,” Stegbauer said. “In fact it’s one of my favourite courses to play with its up and downs. It requires a crafting golf game to plot your way around the testing layout which is situated on Oberon dam.”

The three-day event finishes with an Associate PGA Pro-Am and this year it was fitting that Lawrence would take out the A grade amateur section with 38 points. Young Brighton Lakes Junior Jai Douglas won B grade with 39 points, while the winner of the Associate Pro-am was Lachlan Chamberlain from Gold Creek in Canberra.

Chamberlain’s winning score was two-under par, with Adam Naaman second one shot back

All those participating in the 2025 event and those to have visited Oberon previously congratulate Graham Lawrence for his unwavering support of ‘the Oberon Experience’ and of PGA professionals Australia wide.

“It is one of the best online hole-by-hole tours that I’ve seen,” Stegbauer added.
