YEPPOON Golf Club’s Joey Kimbara and Bernie Antcliff won the men’s and women’s (respectively) Central Queensland Sandgreen Open Championships last month.
Kimbara defeated Rockhampton Golf Club’s Shaun Antcliff on the second extra hole of a sudden-death playoff after the pair had returned rounds of nine-under par 61s at Mt Morgan golf course.
It was Kimbara’s second Central Queensland Open Championship win after winning the CQ men’s open at the Rockhampton Golf Club last year.
Meanwhile, Bernie Antcliff scored her biggest golf tournament win in taking out the women’s title.
She fired a one-under par 69 to edge out her daughter Sarah by a single shot.
In the B grade, Mount Morgan’s Dan McLeod carded a one-over par 71 to defeat club-mate Simon Ross (72) for the title.
In the women’s B grade, Rockhampton’s Nola Taylor signed for an 83 to finish four strokes clear of Miriam Vale’s Kate Bell.
Wowan’s Brian Moretti (84) and Gayle Webber (Wowan) took out the men’s and women’s C grade titles respectively.
Golf Central Queensland secretary Gurney Clamp said the organisation was delighted with the trial of playing the men’s and women’s championships at the same time and venue – Mount Morgan Golf Club, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
