GEORGE Oshlack, a Huntingdale member recently transferring from Cranbourne Golf Club who turned 100 in April, plays three to four times a week and drives himself to golf.
A holocaust survivor, Oshlack was a Cranbourne member for 65 years before the course closed in March and has had three holes in one.
Last year, George won a Wednesday competition beating all 200 players at Cranbourne by one shot.
George is a sports freak having won three World Masters Squash Championships and during Covid practiced in his garage against a brick wall. He also plays lawn bowls and has played golf, lawn bowls and squash all on the same day.
He generally plays golf Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays plus some practice.
“You’ve got to look after yourself. Your body is the most important thing. You’ve got to exercise a lot, that’s first and secondly, you’ve got to watch what you’re eating. This will keep you healthy.” George said.
George who was born in Zelechow, a small Polish village, which was invaded by the Nazis in 1939, celebrated his 100th birthday in style with family, including his two devoted children.
Nine-time major champion Gary Player is currently the oldest actively playing professional golfer, regularly taking part in exhibition events at 90 years old.
Only one per cent of golfers live to 100 – George Oshlack is one in a hundred!
A true gentleman on and off the golf course and loved by all golfers who play with him, George has played more than 10,000 rounds of golf and enjoyed all of them.
