Like many clubs, Lynwood golf course was severely impacted by the ‘big wet’.

THE big wet that devastated New South Wales and South East Queensland during the first half of the year prompted many golf club managers to comment: “This (wet weather and flooding) is a whole lot worse than Covid.”

It’s a bold statement, but it tells the story as the disruption to businesses have been massive.

The extent of the impact is shown in GolfLink competition rounds for July, as provided by Golf Australia.

Rounds were down nationally in July 2022 by 12.4% (on 2019 benchmark levels), but in the biggest market, New South Wales (including the ACT), rounds were down 40.2%.

Metropolitan NSW was simply horrendous, down 63.5% on July 2019 levels and less than a third of the last two years (regional NSW was down 24.1%).

Meanwhile, Golf Management Australia CEO Paul Vardy says the golf boom around the country continues “as an amazing health and wellbeing outlet”.

“It’s particularly frustrating for those unable to play. And, this is having an impact on moods at clubs.
