Ricky Ponting tees off at a preview event to showcase the exciting new Country Club Tasmania course, the centrepiece of the resort’s $20 million golf precinct development.
COUNTRY Club Tasmania marked an exciting milestone in the development of its new Championship Golf Course, with Ambassador Ricky Ponting testing out the first nine completed holes with a VIP group of avid golfers and sporting stars, as well as representatives of Inside Golf magazine.
The course, the centrepiece of the resort’s $20 million golf precinct development, is on track to officially open in Summer 2027.
With spectacular parkland scenery, strategically crafted fairways and signature water features, the initial nine holes delivered a compelling preview of what is set to become one of Australia’s most exciting new golfing destinations.
Ponting, a former Australian cricket captain, passionate golfer and proud Launceston local, said the preview event showcased just how special the course will be once complete.
“Playing the first nine holes for the very first time, was just extraordinary. I can now visualise exactly what this magnificent facility is going to be,” he said.
“I feel very lucky to have been able to get a sneak peek ahead of the opening next summer. The course is going to be something truly unique for Tasmania. It’s beautifully shaped, challenging in all the right ways and built to a championship standard.”
Designed by acclaimed architect Robin Gibson, the Championship Golf Course draws on inspiration from iconic layouts across North America and the UK while celebrating the natural Tassie landscape. Mature trees, stone bridges, lakes and creeks, come together to create a stunning and technically demanding parkland-styled design.

Head of Golf at Country Club Tasmania Bryce Gorham said the course is already delivering the playing experience the team envisioned.
“Watching Ricky and his guests test out the first half of the course showed just how engaging these holes and the course really is. Robin and the team have created a design that rewards strategy and precision. Every shot matters, and every hole offers something memorable,” Gorham said.

Country Club Tasmania, located just 10 minutes from Launceston’s CBD in Prospect Vale, is one of the state’s premier resort destinations. The resort offers 4.5-star accommodation across resort rooms and self-contained villas, alongside a wide range of leisure and entertainment options. Guests can enjoy a championship golf course once completed, a casino, restaurants and bars, horse riding, indoor swimming pool, health club, and The Range, the newly developed driving range and mini golf precinct.
