WOW! What a review we have this month!
We have tried and reviewed these golf shoes like never before. Let’s take you through it.
Whenever Titleist or FootJoy produce a new product it’s always a winner and this is the case again for the new FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon.
As a golf coach, I’m forever banging on about how we should always be fitted for golf clubs but I hadn’t been fitted for shoes before and to my surprise I now swear by getting your shoes properly fitted.
A simple yet effective way to ensure your shoes are going to fit and last from step one.
I was at the Titleist and FootJoy showroom where marketing manager Tim Snow took my size for length which was nothing new, but taking the width of my shoe was.
Whether I had always purchased wide-fitting shoes because that’s all that golf shops had I’m not too sure, but I had always been an 11.5 wide.
However, Tim’s recommendations were an 11 medium – not too dissimilar from what I am used to but from step one a number of things sprung to mind. One I knew I could wear the shoes straight away and secondly the stability of the shoes.
What a shoe!
Now to take them to the first tee. Traditionally, when I have worn new shoes, I have more than likely worn them around the house to break them in, however this time I thought ‘let’s take them straight out of the box and onto the course’, which I did.
I walked the front nine on the Champions course at Sandhurst and from the first step I took I knew these were going to be great.
To be completely honest, after hitting balls in the simulator on the day of the fitting at FootJoy I knew they were going to be great, but the justification after taking a few steps was great.
As I walked and played the course, I noticed two things that stood out. The stability in the shoe, in particular the heel, was brilliant and the second being that there weren’t any creases along the toe line which I can put down to the fit.
After walking the nine holes I couldn’t fault the shoe. I then thought that it would be a great idea to organise a game with Tim from FootJoy to really get a better understanding of the shoe and how it was built.
Again, the first thing that I noticed was the stability. Although you’d think with a shoe that possesses a really good base to swing and walk, to my surprise the shoe is noticeably light.
I’m sure we have all come across shoes that are extremely stable but they normally weigh a ton – not the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon. In fact, the complete opposite!
Now to the shoes design and technology.
The shoes custom-moulded fibre plate and design maximises stability and torsional flex increasing ground leverage and contact.
FootJoy has wrapped the carbon plate around the midsole to add targeted stiffness realised through your swing without sacrificing comfort for the walk between shots.
The combination of the firm FTF+ midsole wrapped with a thermoplastic outsole wing enhances stability across your entire foot. The Power Stabilizer design extends your connection to the ground for greater leverage and maximum energy transfer.
The addition of the softer, tuned-for walking comfort, StratoFoam and OptiFlex plate creates the ultimate walking golf shoe. The StratoFoam absorbs shock on every step and returns energy to reduce walking fatigue.
The OptiFlex plate provides multi-directional rigidity for stability, but traverses the length of your foot with cut-outs matched identically to how your foot naturally breaks as you walk, reducing the energy required to take each step.
Added ankle padding and seamless design locks in your heel with comfort and support. Back pull tab and extra stretch across the foot opening makes the shoe easy to step into. Ortholite Impressions FitBed® provides immediate step-in comfort and shapes over time for a truly custom fit.
FootJoy has brought together a shoe that from design and then performance ticks all the boxes.
It’s comfortable, stable, lightweight, waterproof and the shoe can be worn from the minute you purchase it.
I can’t recommend enough that you go out and get fitted for the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon. It’s one of the best performing product I have reviewed this year.
