HELLO golfers, Callaway Golf have kindly invited us to test and review the newest wedges, the Opus and Opus Platinum. Intrigued by the name, I was even more interested in how these wedges performed and I can say that these wedges spin!

Looking at the design, from first glance I was super impressed by the shape. For me a wedge with a more rounded shape is crucial and the Opus & Opus Platinum wedges do exactly this. The Tour Certified shaping in the Opus wedges are the most Tour-tested, Tour-validated shapes in Callaway history, with a higher toe peak, radius in the leading edge, and easier hosel transitions making Opus their best wedge shape ever.

The spin on these wedges was the first thing I noticed, even on the gently heel or toe strikes the ball reacted the way I wanted it to. The Spin Gen Face Technology provides spin and control in your wedges by combining three key elements on the face; an all-new tighter pitch which puts more grooves on the face, offset groove-in-groove for spin when opening the face, and a new aggressive face blast providing spin and bite on partial shots. These three elements work in conjunction to provide a crisp, tour level spin.

Callaway have designed four sole and grind options when it comes to the wedges to fit everyone’s game. Your technique travels with you, so finding the right grind for your swing is paramount in wedge play. With Opus, they have a complete lineup of sole shapes from narrow to wide, available in the popular S grind, suited to a variety of swing types and best for players who prefer square face shots, the forgiving W grind, the widest sole for players who need the most help and forgiveness, the versatile C grind, for short game players needing versatility in shot making, and the Tour-favorite T grind, for skilled and precise players who keep the leading edge low. Along with the sole and grind options Callaway also have different finishes to the wedges in the brushed chrome and the black shadow.

You may be asking by now what is the difference between Opus & Opus Platinum Wedges? Well, some of the differences between the two include:

– A Platinum Blue finish as well as the Platinum Chrome

– Loft options are from 54*-60*

– By using tungsten high in the topline, they have been able to give players a shot that will naturally launch lower providing more control and spin into the green.

– Only two bounce options. Z & S.Z is a friendly low bounce option and S is a grind for every situation

As for the performance, I played around with both the Opus and Opus Platinum and it was clear Callaway have created a wedge for everyone. I loved the versatility in each grind but also the amount of spin I was able to create without losing control in flight and distance. I loved the fact I could hit long pitches and also shorter chips and still have a level of confidence regardless of the grind.

In conclusion, the Callaway Opus and Opus Platinum wedges deliver an exceptional combination of design, spin, and versatility. The distinct finishes and bounce options further add to the wedges’ appeal, especially for golfers seeking both style and functionality.
