Mizuno JPX 925.

HELLO Golfers! What a treat it has been thus far testing and reviewing clubs and again this month’s review has not disappointed and in fact has only enhanced the reputation of the Mizuno brand. Tested and reviewed this month is the Mizuno Pro S-3 and Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons.

I need to confess Mizuno have always been one of my favourite brands, having owned multiple sets of irons of my golfing journey. I know how much research and development go into all their products and the quality of craftsmanship, making their products as good as there is in the golf industry!

Diving into the Mizuno Pro S-3 irons first, my initial thoughts were that these irons look unbelievable. They just look pure, When you place them down and take your grip they look pure, when they sit in your golf bag they sit pure and when your playing partners put them in their hands, they look pure. I’m not sure if this is a placebo effect or not but I just feel like you can’t hit a bad shot with these clubs. In detailing the technology in the iron, Mizuno are renowned for their feel and the Mizuno Pro S-3 is no different, delivering the signature sensation that Mizuno has built its reputation on. This exceptional feel is the result of the Grain Flow Forged HD process, performed exclusively at Mizuno’s Hiroshima plant, coupled with the finest materials, the Pro s-3’s featuring 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel, which helps with the soft, responsive touch that players crave. Furthermore, they also have been designed with a Copper Underlay, a subtle yet impactful addition that enhances vibration patterns, ensuring a smoother, more connected feel at impact.

The irons I tested were exactly my specs, which allowed me to compare them to what I currently use, and the results were great. The first impressions were around the feel and sound. My tendencies recently have been to strike the ball gently towards the toe on the bad swing, but when using the Mizuno Pro S-3 even those slightly toe strikes felt good and very similar to a good strike. Adding to the feel was the sound – when I first hit the irons I was using a indoor Trackman Bay and the noise from the strike was sensational. Using these clubs felt like I was always going to hit a good shot, not necessarily because I was making good swings, but simply because of how brilliant the technology and how they sound, feel and most importantly how they look. In taking them onto the course, I had some added confidence and in letting you in on a little secret……it was one of my better strokes gained approach rounds so far this year!

Mizuno Pro S-3.

As for the Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons, again similar to the Mizuno Pro S-3 model, these irons have appeal. They are more forgiving than the Mizuno S-3 Pro, while the most exciting component of this iron is that although they are extremely forgiving, they are not your typical design and look considering how forgiving they are. With a slightly thicker top line at address and gently wider sole, these irons still look great and like the Mizuno S-3 Pro heads the finish is a matte grey.  In taking a look at the technology behind the head, it is slightly different, with Mizuno doing something interesting. And I really like what they have done. From the 4-iron thru to the 7-iron, they used a Multi-Material Construction using Chromoly. Using the forged Chromoly 4120 face and neck, paired with a 431 stainless steel back, allows for maximum CORTECH design flexibility and greater control over CG Depth. What I f0und is that this can absolutely help with flight, strike, sound, feel and forgiveness. The shorter irons, the 8-iron thru to Gap Wedge they been forged from 1025 E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel, ensuring precision, control, and that iconic buttery feel.

In closing, both the Mizuno Pro S-3 and JPX 925 Forged irons have lived up to, and in many ways exceeded, the high expectations we’ve come to associate with the Mizuno name. Whether a player who prioritises feel and precision, or someone seeking added forgiveness without sacrificing aesthetics, Mizuno has something special to offer in these two irons. The Pro S-3 delivers a tour-level blend of purity and performance, while the JPX 925 Forged offers an incredible balance of forgiveness and feel, all wrapped in a sleek, confidence-inspiring design. It’s been a true pleasure putting these irons through their paces, and one thing’s for certain—Mizuno continues to raise the bar when it comes to innovation, craftsmanship, and playability.

Until next time, hit them pure!
