PING’s fourth-generation Glide wedge range, available locally from April 8, 2022, is based on one key design principle: ‘control that you can feel’. There are several key technical innovations involved in Ping’s successful engineering of this specific playability combination.

The Glide 4.0 wedges feature a progressive multi-material construction that combines 8620 Carbon Steel with an enlarged CTP elastomer insert to create the ultimate in soft, responsive feel. In addition, the larger volume of the custom tuning port allows for a substantial 36% increase in face contact.

The technical story behind the face design is equally impressive. The Glide 4.0 wedges successfully integrate two key design elements in the form of precisely-milled faces and grooves and an exclusive Emery Blast process that serves to create more friction during ball/club interaction. As a direct result, each Glide 4.0 wedge makes it far easier for golfers to access a range of lower-launching, higher-spinning shots.

Four differentiated sole grinds are available to allow golfers to select the customized option best suited to both their angle of attack and the typical turf conditions of their home course:

S GRIND: This option features trailing edge and heel relief with ample bounce (10-12 degrees) and a rounded leading edge to suit most golfers.

W GRIND: Featuring a traditional, full-sole design and rounded leading edge, this model is the most forgiving regarding turf interaction. With its 14 degree bounce,
it is recommended for square face and bunker shots.

E GRIND: This is a high-toe model with improved leading edge shaping. It also features an 8-10 degree bounce range and the benefits of a special dished sole and tapered hosel to enhance bunker play.

T GRIND: This model features half-moon sole shaping and dual bounce benefits in the form of a high-leading edge bounce and also increased centre bounce width.

Another interesting aspect of the Ping Glide 4.0 wedge family is the use of a varied sidewall milling process to maximize groove volume and subsequent spin generation. The lower-lofted wedges (50 & 52 degrees) feature 20 degrees of sidewall milling while the higher-lofted options (54-60 degrees) are 28 degrees sidewall milled and feature a tighter radius to enhance their spin and precision on finesse and sand shots.

What’s more, all this tech comes in a compact, refined profile that utilises Ping’s latest advancements in leading edge and hosel transition to create ‘a confident and captured look at address’.

The Ping Glide 4.0 wedges deliver ‘control that you can feel’ in a wedge that looks as good as it performs. Australian golfers are in for a short-game treat.
