MORE than 120 golfing Nomads will converge on Kooralbyn Valley in Queensland this month for Nomads Australia’s National championships.
Golfers from South Africa, New Zealand and Zimbabwe will join members of the five Nomads Golf Clubs across Australia for what is expected to be an epic event, starting on October 28.
“Nomads from around the world will come to Kooralbyn Valley to not only play one of Australia’s best golf courses, but to raise funds for charity,’’ Nomads Australia president Nell Schoeman said.
“We have people flying in for the 54-hole tournament from across the world.
“We are not only boosting the local tourism industry at a time when it needs help, but as a group we will will be raising as much money as possible for charities.’’
The event is expected to boost the Queensland tourism economy by $400,000.
Nomads started in Australia in 2003 and since that time the club has raised more than a $1.1 million for charity and has been active in supporting junior golf around the country.
Nomads has a strong, and long-standing, partnership with the Jack Newton Junior Golf organisation. Jack, who died earlier this year, was a past patron of Nomads Australia.
“The aim of Nomads is to enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded people through the medium of golf,’’ Schoeman said.
“Through golf we raise funds for those less fortunate than ourselves and we raise money to foster the growth of junior golf.”
Nomads Australia has two clubs in Sydney, one in Western Australia and two in Queensland – Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.
