Maleny adds next 3 holes

MALENY Golf Club in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland remains on track to have 12 holes in play early next year following completion of bulk earthworks and installation of irrigation on the next three holes.

David Burrup Golf Course and Sports Turf Designs was contracted to undertake the earthworks construction, which was completed in just 16 days during August.

Club president Dr Max Whitten said installation of the irrigation system was now well advanced in preparation for stolonising the new greens in conjunction with the next greens renovation scheduled in late October.

“David Burrup and his team are highly experienced and have done an excellent job in shaping the greens and preparing these new holes which will expand our golf course to 12 holes,” Dr Whitten said.

“The club has also received council approval to construct a modern maintenance facility to maintain the course at a very high standard and work on this building is also now getting underway.”

Dr Whitten said in addition to a $100,000 Queensland Government grant, Sunshine Coast Council had budgeted to provide $450,000 over the next two financial years towards the design, construction and establishment of stage two of the Maleny golf course to expand it to 18 holes.

“We have received support from both the state and local government as well as an enormous amount of support from local volunteers and our plan is to complete the final six holes in 2018,” he said.

“We have no doubt that once the Graham Papworth-designed course is completed, it will be one of the best community golf courses on the Sunshine Coast.”

Ranfurlie Golf on the move

Following the sale and closure of the Amstel Park course in May 2016, Melbourne’s Amstel Golf Club—and in turn the Ranfurlie Golf Course—is in a strong financial position and are now giving back to its faithful membership with additional offerings that stem well beyond the normal golf club membership.

The Ranfurlie Golf Course is now investing heavily into the member experience at the Ranfurlie facility, which has already been spearheaded by an innovative indoor teaching room with state-of-the-art coaching and club-fitting equipment.

Despite currently being indoors, the teaching room was designed to hit out onto an exciting commercial driving range – plans for which have been approved and construction has since commenced. The Ranfurlie Range will be open to the public seven days a week and feature innovative hitting bays, ‘premium bays’ and a renovated sports bar, all custom-built to heighten the overall range experience.

The club’s membership offering is also getting a shake-up, designed to establish unique value adds to the membership at all levels. Some of the new member developments at Ranfurlie include the ability to play at three additional golf courses, free of charge, through the club’s alignment with management company Golf Services Management; Special ‘Member Guest Passes’ that allow members to bring family and friends onto the golf course; Member range credits for the Ranfurlie Range later this year; Meal Vouchers available for members to use at the Amstel Club for lunch or dinner; Special member-only golf events at some of Victoria’s best courses and a new ‘Provisional Membership’ allowing 7 day access which will be available for an opening offer of $995 for 6 months.

Warrnambool works continue

Warrnambool golf club continues its course improvement works with rave reviews.

Early 2017 saw the construction and expansion of the 7 and 15 tee complexes. As part of the changes there was construction of new paths making for a safer flow of golf traffic from holes 6 to 7 and from 14 to 15. The larger tee boxes now allow for greater variation to both holes, while the finished product is now aesthetically enhanced and has improved playability.

More recently, woody weed removal from behind the 5th green has greatly improved the look of the green complex and better air circulation around the green. In addition, more sunlight reaching the green has improved the green surface.

The club is currently selling blocks to the west of the course; once completed this will strengthen the club’s financial future and will lead to reconstruction of more greens and tee complexes. As a part of the club’s relationship with Ross Perrett and David Flood of TP Golf, they hope to continue modernising the course layout and greens, using the features of the coastal dune complex to enhance golfers experience when they play the course.
