Girl, 14, wins Queensland title

A 14-year-old junior golfer has taken out the Queensland Women’s Country Championship played at Atherton and Mareeba golf clubs in Far North Queensland.
Gennai Goodwin of Mossman Golf Club carded rounds of 72-77 – five-over par – to finish five strokes ahead of Erina Williams of Cairns Golf Club and Millaa Millaa’s Sarah Kirsch. Williams took out the runner-up prize on a countback.
Cairns’ Nicole Bruce (83-71) finished fourth with Half Moon Bay’s Marion Wright (77-78) a shot further back.
The silver division (0-18 handicap) 36-hole nett winner was Townsville's Val Thompson with nett scores of 69-66–135.
The Bronze 1 division was won by Charlene Borninkoh (Rowes Bay) with rounds of 86-87–173. A further five shots back and runner-up was Mackay's Maryann Harrigan on 178.
Mandy Webb of Tewantin Noosa was victorious in the Bronze 2 division, winning by a modest 11 shots. She returned rounds of 98-99–197.
