Cammeray Golf Club has been well rewarded for its efforts to make the club and course more attractive to families and juniors in the local area. Cammeray Public School has jumped on board. 60 of their school kids aged 7 to 12 will take part in a 5 week program run by US Kids Golf introducing them to the game of golf.
General Manager of Cammeray Golf Club, Simon Adams is committed to boosting the numbers of juniors in the club and has teamed up with US Kids Golf Australia to do so.
In December 2015, he introduced the US Kids Golf Family Course Program which involves placing two more tee off points on each fairway. This reduces the distances to the holes for kids and makes the game less daunting and more fun for those that may not yet have the strength or skill to hit the ball long distances. “ The US Kids Golf Family Course concept has been very well supported by the local community and we are definitely seeing more kids and families playing.” Adams said
The increased exposure caught the attention of Cammeray Public School who contacted the club with the idea of bring Golf into the school’s sports program.
Adams said “We are thrilled to be working with Cammeray Public School to introduce the kids to golf. Many of them have never picked up a golf club before so it is a great chance for us to show them how much fun golf is and hopefully then provide them with the opportunity to play more regularly on a fun course or through the clinics, tournaments and promo days we are offering in conjunction with US Kids Golf.”
US Kids Golf instructors Leon Faulkner and Oliver Gebert will be coordinating the program in line with the US Kids Golf Learning Program which has been developed and based on over 20 years of coaching research.”It is no doubt the best learning program in the market, it is based on teaching kids the game of golf by making it fun whilst not being overly technical.” Says Leon Faulkener who was recently awarded an “Honourable Mention” by US Kids Golf in the “Top 50 Kids Coaches” world wide.
Ironically, both Leon and Oliver attended Cammeray Public School, grew up playing and were junior members of Cammeray Golf Club. “Both Oliver and I are passionate about teaching kids golf, and to be asked to be involved with Cammeray Public’s Schools golf program, at Cammeray Golf Course, is a privilege !” says Leon.
