Next week at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney, Golf Australia will launch a first in Aussie golf.

Australian Open Radio will bring golf fans more than 20 hours of live, exclusive coverage as the world’s best players battle it out for our national championship.

Not only will AO Radio be available free through a headset for on-course spectators, it will be streamed live through the Open website at http://www.emiratesaustralianopen.com.au and available through apps – both iPhone and Android — all four days.

The headset has previously been used to make TV audio available around the course, but never before has a dedicated broadcast been made for an Australian event.

Golf Australia digital director John Sutherland said the expanses of The Australian were ideal for the innovation.

“Golf is the perfect sport for radio,” Sutherland said.

“With so much action occurring over a large geographical space, radio gives fans on course instant knowledge of what is happening around them and which hole they should head for next.”

“And to give golf lovers who can’t make it to The Australian the ability to listen online helps improve our broader Emirates Australian Open fan experience and grows engagement in the game.”

The broadcast will feature some of the best-known voices in Australian golf media, who’ll bring fans unrivalled access to the brilliant field.

The coverage will be hosted by former touring professional Mark Allen, with co-hosts including Mike Clayton and Andy Maher.

There will also be roving on-course coverage from Golf Australia’s high performance experts Brad James and Matt Cutler, with award-winning reporters Martin Blake, John Huggan, Peter Stone and Mark Hayes adding their expertise.

The hours of broadcast are from 11am-4pm Thursday and Friday and then from noon to 5pm on the weekend.

The Emirates Australian Open is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia, a member of the International Federation of PGA Tours, and the OneAsia tour.  A flagship tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Emirates Australian Open winner will receive a minimum of 32 Official World Golf Ranking points.

The 2014 Emirates Australian Open will be played at The Australian Golf Club from November 27-30.

The event will be telecast for all four days on Channel 7.
